How to Set Up Call Forwarding on AT&T (2026 Guide)
AT&T runs two different products with two different setups. AT&T Wireless (mobile) doesn't publish dial codes — the official method per AT&T's own support docs is to turn call forwarding on in your phone's built-in Call Forwarding settings. AT&T Phone (Digital / U-verse Voice landline) still uses the older *72 / *73 pair plus *90 and *92 for conditional forwarding.
For a trades business on the road all day, the mobile line is what matters — set forwarding in your iPhone or Android's Call Forwarding menu. AT&T is the only major US carrier that offers three separate conditional codes (busy, no-answer, unavailable) on the home-phone side, which is useful if your office line is on AT&T Phone.

- AT&T doesn't publish call-forwarding documentation for Prepaid, but AT&T's own Prepaid support references the #21# forwarding code — test it on your line.
- AT&T Wireless doesn't support forwarding to international numbers.

Forward only your missed calls
You're on a roof, under a sink, driving between jobs. You don't need every call forwarded — just the ones you can't get to. That's called conditional forwarding, and it's the setup most trades businesses use.
- Forward when no reply — keep the call ringing on your phone first. If you don't pick up in 15–20 seconds, it forwards.
- Forward when busy — you're already on a call, the next one still gets answered instead of hitting voicemail.
- Forward when unreachable — you're in a basement or a dead zone. The call still gets picked up.
Combine all three and no caller ever hits voicemail again — but you still answer the calls you're free to take.
AT&T call forwarding not working?
Verify on AT&T Wireless support• Confirm which AT&T product you're on — Wireless uses in-phone settings (with GSM codes as an undocumented fallback), Phone/Digital uses *72. They aren't interchangeable.
• If voicemail answers before your no-answer forward triggers, increase the 'number of rings before voicemail' setting in your AT&T Phone voicemail settings, or ask AT&T support to adjust it.
